Waruni
Founder & Main storyteller
Tantu is a serendipitous creation that sprouted seed on our storyteller & founder Waruni. She started this story as a student at the National Craft Council of Traditional Art in Sri Lanka. The experiences in that very special school, the encounters with the subtle yet vibrant aesthetic nurtured there found a natural culmination in Tantu. But Tantu is not just her creation. Young Artisans, artists, designers, and most importantly our traditional hand lloom weavers & hand painting artists community, have all somehow contributed to Tantu identity and are influential to its state of being. The main thread running through this story is the love and inherent beauty of hand-woven textiles & traditional painting techniques used in ancient times in Sri Lanka. These textile & art heritage, are worn lovingly and often passed down from generation to generation. Every product in the Tantu collection bears witness to a refined sense of craftsmanship. Cherished tradition and dynamic innovation co-exist in designs that use hand-processed cloth and raw materials, cotton in endless variety.
